Case Studies

This section of our site contains several case studies of projects we have undertaken for a variety of clients. We often find that the best way of demonstrating what we can do for you now is to compare your requirements with work we've succesfully completed in the past, so have a look around. We hope that the studies contained in this section will give you some idea of what GBdirect can do for your company.

To save you some trouble, here's a brief synopsis of the current items:

• WAP-enabling a website using php3 — our Geographic Search Engine / Guide now talks WAP. Here's how we did it without having to do a rewrite.
• Underwhelmed by WAP — having discovered a lot of what WAP/WML is like, as well as buying a WAP phone, here's some thoughts and comments on what WAP/WML delivers. We are unimpressed.
• Zenith's Online Ordering System — outlines the direct selling web site that we built for Zenith, one of the UK's largest plumbing supplies retailer. The site was built using our own e-commerce framework, running on Linux and supported by a mySQL database.
• Remote NT via Linux — work done for a local small enterprise. Linux provides the email and web access gateway to the outside world, as well as acting as a bridge for the boss who often works from home, needs to dial-in and see NT shares available.
• Integrating NT and Unix Email — a project for a large British industrial distributor, providing email for the whole business through a Unix system integrated with NT, MS Exchange and Pine for green-screen users. A novel feature is how we extract the NT address book and use that to derive the Sendmail /etc/aliases file.
• Building a Data-Driven Website with Open Source Software — This fairly lengthy piece describes in detail how we built the dynamic directory Trainingpages from Open Source components. N.B. There is an identical copy of this page confusingly filed in the press releases section of the site.
